Key Responsibilities
Engagement Delivery
- Execute pentesting and security assessments across network, web application, mobile, and cloud environments, following Secure Ideas' established methodologies.
- Identify and validate vulnerabilities using a combination of automated tooling and manual testing techniques, under the guidance of a senior consultant or project lead.
- Document testing steps, evidence, and findings clearly and accurately as work progresses, rather than reconstructing notes after the fact.
- Escalate uncertainty, scope questions, or technical blockers to your project lead promptly rather than guessing.
Client Communication
- Participate professionally in client kickoff meetings and check-ins, supporting the Project Manager and Senior and Principal Consultants as needed.
- Maintain a professional, camera-on presence in client-facing meetings, consistent with Secure Ideas' client experience standards.
- Communicate status and findings clearly to internal team members and, as you grow in the role, directly to clients.
Reporting
- Draft clear, well-organized findings write-ups using Secure Ideas' reporting templates and standards.
- Incorporate feedback from senior and principal consultants to continuously improve report quality.
- Support the technical editing process by responding to review questions and clarifications promptly.
Professional Development
- Actively seek mentorship and feedback from senior consultants to accelerate technical and professional growth.
- Pursue relevant certifications and training to expand testing capabilities across new disciplines.
- Stay current on emerging vulnerabilities, attack techniques, and tooling relevant to the engagements you support.
Candidate Requirements
Required
- 0–3 years of experience in pentesting, offensive security, or a closely related IT/security role (internships and equivalent hands-on lab/CTF experience considered).
- Foundational understanding of networking, operating systems, and common web application and infrastructure vulnerabilities.
- Strong written communication skills and attention to detail.
- Eagerness to learn, take feedback well, and grow technical skills across multiple testing disciplines.
- Professional, reliable, and comfortable representing Secure Ideas in client-facing settings.
Preferred / Strong Differentiator
- A foundational certification such as CompTIA Security+, eJPT, or PNPT, or active progress toward OSCP.
- Hands-on experience with common testing tools (e.g., Burp Suite, Nmap, Metasploit) through coursework, labs, or CTFs.
- Scripting experience (e.g., Python, Bash, PowerShell) to support testing and automation.
- Prior internship or entry-level experience in IT, system administration, or security operations.
Compensation
Compensation is commensurate with experience and will be discussed as part of the interview process.
What Success Looks Like

- You build confidence and independence across a growing range of testing disciplines.
- Clients and teammates experience you as professional, reliable, and easy to work with.
- You're on a clear growth trajectory toward taking on more engagement ownership and, eventually, a senior consultant role.
